We are happy to recommend private teachers to current students. There are many local and excellent teachers on your band instrument. To find out more, please contact Mr. MacArthur, <[email protected]> or Ms. Katz <[email protected]>.
We are often asked if private lessons are necessary; the short answer is no. We have had many excellent students and musicians who haven't had any private teaching. However, private lessons can be beneficial to students of any level. For students that are struggling, they provide extra help and re-enforcement of key concepts. For those students who may already be somewhat advanced, lessons can provide more advanced challenges beyond what gets covered in class. In any case, as music ensembles are a cooperative subject, when one student improves their skills, everybody benefits.
If the cost of lessons is daunting, the Ann Arbor Public Schools does offer financial help for lessons for students of low income families. Again, for more information please contact Mr. MacArthur, <[email protected]> or Mr. Blackson-Pakela <[email protected]>
